Welcome Mass for TFWs: A Moment of Gathering, Togetherness, and Solidarity

On May 17, 2026, the traditional mass organized by the Fondation Oscar Romero took place in Saint-Rémi, an event that has become a regular part of the calendar for temporary foreign workers (TFWs). Each year, two celebrations are held—one in spring and one in fall—allowing TFWs to gather in a spirit of community, spirituality, and solidarity.

More than 150 temporary foreign workers attended the mass, in an atmosphere marked by reflection, respect, and warmth. At the end of the ceremony, participants shared a convivial moment over hot dogs and drinks generously offered by the Fondation Oscar Romero, further strengthening the spirit of connection and community.

Melvin Mendez and his team of volunteers were also present to distribute the InfoTET guides, continuing their valuable mission of information-sharing and support for workers.

As part of this activity, the InfoTET Québec program was presented to participants by Nicolas Bellier, Project Director of InfoTET d’Immigrant Québec. This presentation highlighted key resources available to TFWs, as well as practical tools regarding their rights and obligations, along with services available throughout the province. The exchange with participants was especially meaningful, making it possible to answer their questions, identify their needs, and reinforce InfoTET’s mission: to provide clear, accessible, and useful information to support temporary foreign workers throughout their stay in Quebec.

The event also welcomed the presence of Felipe González, Consul for Protection of Mexico, and María Morales, representative of the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST), highlighting the importance of this initiative for the TFW community.

Under a bright sun and in an atmosphere of genuine fraternity, this spring gathering offered participants a meaningful moment of connection, once again confirming the value and success of this beautiful tradition led by the Fondation Oscar Romero.
