On July 7, 2026, Accès Travail Portneuf organized a mini golf activity at Donnacona Park, bringing together Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) in a welcoming environment designed to promote well-being, social interaction, and community integration outside the workplace.
The activity provided participants with an opportunity to step away from their daily work routine, reduce stress, and enjoy a relaxing experience with fellow workers. For many of them, it was their first time playing mini golf, making the event especially memorable and creating many moments of fun, laughter, and camaraderie.
Workers from Guatemala, Mexico, and Tunisia took part in the activity. Most of them are employed on pork, cattle, and poultry farms, while others work in different areas of the agricultural sector. Events like this provide valuable opportunities for workers to build relationships, strengthen their sense of belonging, and connect with others in their community.
One particularly meaningful conversation was with Emilio, a Mexican worker who has participated in Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program for nearly 25 years. Emilio shared that he first worked in Ontario before moving to Quebec five years ago. He proudly explained that participating in the program allowed him to build a home for his family in Mexico and provide higher education opportunities for his children, one of whom is currently studying to become a physician.
During their conversation, Emilio also asked about Canada’s retirement system, explaining that he hopes to continue working until the age of 60, a goal shared by his wife, who remains in Mexico. He received general information about Canada’s pension system and was referred to the appropriate resources to obtain guidance based on his personal situation.
InfoTET by Immigrant Québec was present at the event with an information booth dedicated to introducing the program and the services available to Temporary Foreign Workers. During the activity, Jonathan Buitrago, Regional Coordinator, presented InfoTET by Immigrant Québec and distributed the information guide designed specifically for Temporary Foreign Workers. The guide provides practical information about workers’ rights and responsibilities, as well as essential details on services and resources available throughout Quebec.
The event concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Samuele Seri and Fernand Ouellet, coordinators from Accès Travail Portneuf, actively participated by preparing hot dogs for the workers, encouraging informal conversations and strengthening connections among participants.
From InfoTET by Immigrant Québec perspective, initiatives like this highlight the importance of creating opportunities for Temporary Foreign Workers to connect outside the workplace. Beyond promoting well-being, these activities improve access to reliable information, encourage social integration, and help workers become familiar with the services and resources available to support them throughout their stay in Quebec.
