On September 19, eleven Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) from Nortera, located in Saint-Césaire, Quebec, participated in a training day focused on bicycle safety. This event was organized in collaboration with Cyclo Nord-Sud, SIARI, and the InfoTET team, aiming to enhance the autonomy and safety of workers who use bicycles as their mode of transportation.
During the event, Cyclo Nord-Sud led an interactive workshop covering traffic rules and basic bike maintenance, showing participants how to check the condition of their bicycles before riding. Thanks to the support of SIARI, which provided translation and interpretation services, the content was accessible to all, allowing the TFWs to fully benefit from the experience.
For several seasons, Nortera has been providing bicycles to its temporary employees at the start of their contracts, encouraging an eco-friendly and cost-effective mode of transportation. This kind of initiative helps workers better understand road safety rules and properly maintain their bicycles, facilitating a more autonomous and safe integration into their work environment and community.
Jonathan Buitrago, regional coordinator of the InfoTET program at Immigrant Québec, was present to represent the organization. He took the opportunity to connect with the workers, listen to their experiences, and strengthen the support networks available in the region. He also distributed the latest editions of the InfoTET guide, an essential tool to inform workers about their rights, resources, and services accessible in their area.
We wish to express our sincere gratitude to Nortera for opening its doors and allowing us to share this valuable moment with its team. Events like this not only promote safety but also strengthen the sense of community, integration, and inclusion among temporary foreign workers.
