1: Communicate with your employer

The language barrier can be a significant challenge during your stay in Quebec. Sometimes the employer knows the language spoken by their employees, sometimes not. Gradually, you will find a way to understand each other! It is important to tell your employer if you do not understand what they are saying regarding a specific task, for example.

2: Translate and interpret

Are you a temporary foreign worker with a closed permit and experiencing an emergency situation that requires document translation or interpreter services (job loss, accident, illness…)? Contact the Service of Interpreter, Assistance, and Referral for Immigrants (SIARI), it’s free!

3: Learn French

French is the official language of Quebec. It will not only be useful for communicating with your employer and colleagues but also for socializing with other people outside of work. If you want to learn French, ask your employer or a local organization to direct you to the right resource!
