At InfoTET, we would like to remind all Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) that they must file their tax return before April 30.
This process is mandatory every year for both the Government of Quebec and the Government of Canada, and it covers the work period from January 1 to December 31 of the previous year.
What documents do you need?
To complete your tax return, make sure you have the following documents:
- T4 and Relevé 1 forms provided by your employer (usually in February)
- TD1 form signed and stamped by your recruitment agency
- Federal and provincial authorization forms (if applicable)
- T4E, if you received federal parental benefits
- T4A(P) or NR4, if you received retirement benefits
Who can file your tax return?
You have two options:
- File your tax return yourself
- Hire a professional accountant
If you choose a professional, make sure they are certified and charge a reasonable fee. You should also know that organizations like UPA Montérégie offer paid tax filing services for both agricultural and non-agricultural workers.
Beware of fraud!
It is very important to stay alert:
- The governments of Quebec and Canada do not send text messages or emails announcing refunds
- Refunds are only issued by mail or direct deposit
- Never share your Social Insurance Number (SIN) or personal information
Remember that you have access to the InfoTET guides from Immigrant Québec (available in French, English, and Tagalog), where you will find all the information you need to answer your questions about tax filing and other important topics related to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
Do not leave this process until the last minute. Preparing in advance will help you avoid issues and meet your obligations properly.
