Stories of Connection and Integration: Christmas Dinner for Temporary Foreign Workers in Québec

On December 13, a Christmas dinner was held in the city of Québec, specially organized by the Service d’orientation et d’intégration des immigrants au travail (SOIT) for 40 temporary foreign workers (TET), in a warm, festive, and friendly atmosphere. This event aimed to recognize and thank them for their work, commitment, and participation in various activities throughout the year, providing a space for gathering, exchange, and celebration.

Participants came from Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, Chile, and Ecuador, and currently work in different sectors such as restaurant services, welding, mechanics, and company production, reflecting the diversity of experiences and paths that make up temporary migration in Québec.

For InfoTET d’Immigrant Québec, this type of activity represents a valuable opportunity to strengthen social connections and support integration into life in Québec, especially during significant periods such as the holiday season, which can be sensitive for those far from their home countries and families.

The evening began with a very popular activity: at each table, participants were asked to assemble and decorate a Christmas house according to their creativity. At the end of the night, the winning house was chosen by applause, in an atmosphere full of laughter, enthusiasm, and camaraderie.

It was also an occasion to distribute the new edition of the informational guide for TET, handed out by Jonathan Buitrago, Regional Coordinator of InfoTET Québec. This direct exchange allowed questions to be answered, experiences to be shared, and needs to be better understood. These warm interactions are at the heart of our mission: to accompany and provide tools to temporary foreign workers during their journey in Québec.

The dinner was marked by gratitude, fellowship, and recognition of the journey shared together, highlighting the importance of creating spaces where temporary foreign workers can connect, feel supported, and strengthen their sense of belonging during their stay in Québec.

We especially thank Ana Véronica Salazar and Elizabeth Montano for their excellent work and commitment in organizing this activity, as well as SOIT – Service d’orientation et d’intégration des immigrants au travail for its involvement and collaboration in making this meaningful gathering possible.

At InfoTET d’Immigrant Québec, we believe that events like this are essential for strengthening inclusion and the integration of temporary foreign workers into life in Québec. We will continue supporting initiatives that promote information, guidance, training, and adaptation for those who contribute to the development of our province.
