Soccer for TFWs in Saint-Marc-des-Carrières: Sport, Community, and Support at the End of the Season

On October 3, we had the pleasure of taking part in the “Soccer for TFWs” event in Saint-Marc-des-Carrières, organized by Accès Travail Portneuf as part of the PSTM program (Support Program for Migrant Workers).

Around 40 Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) participated in this sports gathering, mainly from Guatemala, but also from Cameroon, Colombia, and Mexico. Despite transportation challenges in the region, several participants came by bike or car with colleagues, showing their strong commitment to the community.

The event marked the end of the outdoor soccer season and was celebrated in a friendly atmosphere, with delicious hot dogs prepared by Fernand and Samuele.

Representing Immigrant Québec, Jonathan Buitrago, coordinator of the InfoTET program, was present to connect with the workers, learn about their realities, and strengthen the support networks available in the region. He also took the opportunity to distribute the latest editions of the InfoTET guide—an essential tool to inform workers about their rights, available resources, and services in Quebec.

During the event, participants were reminded that the match was friendly, the next session will take place indoors, and that all PSTM program services remain available to TFWs in the region.

We warmly congratulate and thank Accès Travail Portneuf for its outstanding work in supporting TFWs, helping to strengthen their well-being, integration, and access to resources in the Portneuf region.
