Soccer, Community, and Diversity: A Flash Tournament Brings TFWs Together in Saint-Jérôme

This past Saturday, August 2, the Optimiste Saint-Antoine Park in Saint-Jérôme was filled with energy, joy, and team spirit thanks to a vibrant flash soccer tournament organized by CIE Emplois under the dynamic leadership of Déborah Lopez.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., more than 120 participants, all Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs), experienced an unforgettable day where sport was much more than just a competition — it was a true bridge for building connections, celebrating diversity, and strengthening community bonds.

The event brought together workers from several agricultural and industrial companies in the region, including Foliot, Savoura Sainte-Catherine, Savoura Mirabel, Serres Royales, and Serres Bertrand. Through soccer, colleagues from different backgrounds shared moments of healthy competition, mutual support, and camaraderie.

The day was also supported by key community organizations such as Cafla, Siari, Ferme, and Cyclo Nord-Sud, who actively participated by offering information, resources, and support to TFWs, reaffirming their commitment to the well-being and integration of these workers.

InfoTET Québec was also present, represented by its project director Nicolas Bellier, who took the opportunity to connect with workers and reaffirm the organization’s commitment to providing human-centered and accessible support.

Copies of the TFW Guide to Québec were distributed — a document that provides workers with clear information about their rights and responsibilities, available services, and support resources.

Events like this do more than promote sports: they are a true recognition of the hard work, dedication, and contributions of TFWs within the communities where they live and work.

With smiles, solidarity, and strong team spirit, the flash soccer tournament in Saint-Jérôme stood out as a powerful example of inclusion and diversity being lived and celebrated in everyday life.
