“Let’s Play Soccer!”: An Activity Bringing Temporary Foreign Workers Together in Granby

On August 29, 2026, temporary foreign workers (TFWs) from the Granby region gathered at Terry Fox Park to take part in “Let’s Play Soccer!”, an activity organized by Granby Industriel in collaboration with local partner organizations. In a friendly, intercultural atmosphere, the gathering gave workers from different nationalities and industries an opportunity to meet, build connections, and enjoy some recreational time together.

Two soccer games were organized with mixed teams, bringing together agricultural workers as well as workers in the wood and welding industries. Participants, primarily from Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, and Madagascar, had the opportunity to get to know one another and strengthen ties within the community.

Beyond the game results, the goal was to encourage interaction, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging. All participants were able to enjoy this shared experience in a spirit of inclusion and togetherness.

InfoTET, a program of Immigrant Québec, took part in the activity to introduce its program and services. On this occasion, Jonathan Buitrago, Regional Coordinator, presented the InfoTET Québec program and distributed the Guide for Temporary Foreign Workers. This document provides practical tools on TFWs’ rights and responsibilities, along with essential information about services and resources available throughout Quebec.

The gathering also provided an opportunity to share information with a group of Mexican workers who had recently arrived in the region to work for a landscaping company. They were able to learn about the resources and services available to temporary foreign workers in Quebec.

In addition, Cyclo Nord-Sud provided bicycle repair services to workers who brought their bikes. Participants particularly appreciated this additional initiative.

InfoTET warmly thanks Gloria Brand Escobar of Granby Industriel, Joshua Bankert of Cyclo Nord-Sud, and all participants for their attendance and contribution to the success of this activity. This initiative highlights the importance of group activities and collaboration among organizations in encouraging connections, raising awareness of available resources, and strengthening ties with temporary foreign workers in Quebec’s regions.
