InfoTET Meets Temporary Foreign Agricultural Workers in Saint-Hyacinthe

On August 23, 2026, InfoTET of Immigrant Québec took part in the Temporary Agricultural Workers’ Celebration, organized by the Diocèse de Saint-Hyacinthe at the Saint-Hyacinthe Cathedral. The event brought together nearly 200 temporary foreign agricultural workers (TFWs) for a Mass, a blessing of the workers’ hands, and a time of sharing and cultural activities.

The gathering allowed the InfoTET team to speak directly with workers, distribute the Guide for Temporary Foreign Workers, and raise awareness of their rights and responsibilities in Quebec.

Several organizations and partners were also present, including (CAFLA) Centre d’aide aux familles latino-américaines, (SIARI) Service d’Interprète, d’aide et de Référence aux immigrants, and the CNESST. Their participation helped raise awareness of available resources and direct workers toward services suited to their needs.

InfoTET of Immigrant Québec was present with a dedicated space to introduce the program and its services. On this occasion, Jonathan Buitrago, Regional Coordinator, presented the InfoTET Québec program and distributed the information guide for temporary foreign workers. This document provides practical tools on TFWs’ rights and responsibilities, as well as essential information about services and resources available throughout Quebec.

During the discussions, the InfoTET team met a temporary foreign worker who had suffered an eye injury in June 2025. Despite having worked in Canada for approximately 17 years, he explained that, at the time of the accident, he was unaware of the available resources or the steps he needed to take to file a claim.

Thanks to the collaboration of (CAFLA) Centre d’aide aux familles latino-américaines, (SIARI) Service d’Interprète, d’aide et de Référence aux immigrants, and the CNESST, he received information and was referred to the appropriate resources for assistance with his claim.

This situation highlights that access to clear information about rights, available remedies, and services remains essential, even for workers with several years of experience in Quebec. It also underscores the importance of collaboration among organizations to better address TFWs’ needs.

InfoTET warmly thanks the Diocèse de Saint-Hyacinthe for the invitation and all the partners present for their collaboration. This activity helped strengthen ties with local organizations and raise awareness of InfoTET resources among temporary foreign agricultural workers.
