Information Session on Immigration for Temporary Foreign Workers in Victoriaville

Victoriaville, May 20, 2026 — An information session in Spanish for Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) was held in Victoriaville, organized with the support of Viviana Sánchez and by Destination entreprise de Victoriaville et de sa région. The main objective of this activity was to present new immigration policies and measures that may have an impact on workers’ status in Canada.

The session helped participants better understand the steps involved in renewing their work permits, as well as the importance of maintaining strong communication with their employers in order to preserve their legal status in Canada. The presence of several newly arrived TFWs made the session particularly relevant and enriching.

A key part of the presentation focused on the open work permit for vulnerable workers (OWP-V), particularly the situations in which this permit may apply and those in which it does not. Participants also received information about their legal protections, responsibilities, and the available resources to support them throughout their immigration journey.

This immigration prevention activity was essential in helping workers better understand their pathway, avoid misinformation or situations of abuse, and reinforce the message that they can always rely on the support of the TET program.

Workers from Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, and Nicaragua took part in the session, which further enriched the exchanges during the activity.

These information and awareness-raising spaces are a key component of the integration process for Temporary Foreign Workers, as they provide access to reliable information, allow participants to clarify questions directly with specialists, and strengthen their ability to make informed decisions during their stay in Quebec. They also help reduce vulnerability, promote autonomy, and support safer, more guided, and more sustainable integration within the host society.

During the activity, Jonathan Buitrago, Regional Coordinator of InfoTET at Immigrant Québec, raised participants’ awareness of the InfoTET Québec program and the services available to Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs), helping to improve their knowledge of regional resources. His participation strengthened the informational and preventive nature of the activity while reaffirming the commitment of the various stakeholders involved to the integration and well-being of Temporary Foreign Workers in Quebec.
