Black History Month 2026 in Charlevoix-Est: A Space for Intercultural Exchange and Community Connection

As part of Black History Month 2026, the Charlevoix-Est region hosted a moment of gathering, reflection, and celebration that highlighted the richness of the cultural diversity present within the community. This activity, organized by Les Services de main-d’œuvre l’Appui, provided a space for exchange and participation for temporary foreign workers (TFWs).

Black History Month represents an important opportunity to recognize the historical, social, and cultural contributions of Black communities, while also promoting respect, understanding, and dialogue between cultures. In regions such as Charlevoix-Est, where an increasing number of temporary foreign workers actively contribute to economic and social life, initiatives like this help create spaces for connection, exchange, and mutual recognition.

As part of this activity, participants were invited to take part in several moments of interaction and participation. Among them, an interactive quiz brought participants together during a dynamic and engaging evening marked by reflection, conversation, and a very positive collective energy.

During the event, participants also had the opportunity to share stories and traditional tales from their cultures, creating authentic and enriching moments of exchange. These stories helped highlight the traditions, journeys, and experiences of Black communities while encouraging dialogue and understanding among attendees.

The event also included a family celebration at the Centre des Loisirs de Rivière-Malbaie, which brought together people of all ages in a festive and inclusive atmosphere. The day featured musical, percussion, and dance performances by the group Djembé Québec, as well as various cultural activities showcasing the richness and diversity of different cultural traditions. These moments helped create a warm environment that encouraged connection, dialogue, and closer relationships among participants.

The organization of this activity also benefited from the valuable collaboration of Rodrigue Barbe, a member of the Africains de la Côte association, who supported the logistical preparation, particularly with purchasing and the mobilization of volunteers for the cooking activities.

During the event, Nicolas Bellier, director of the InfoTET d’Immigrant Québec project, took the opportunity to present the InfoTET program and distribute the information guide designed for temporary foreign workers. This document provides practical information and useful tools to better understand their rights, obligations, and the resources available during their stay in the province. This direct exchange made it possible to answer questions, listen to participants’ experiences, and better understand the concrete needs of workers, reinforcing InfoTET mission to provide clear and useful information to TFWs.

From InfoTET perspective, initiatives like this represent a valuable opportunity for temporary foreign workers in the region to feel like an integral part of the community, participate in cultural events, and strengthen connections with the people who share their living and working environment.
