At InfoTET d’Immigrant Quebec, we understand that the integration of Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) goes beyond the workplace. Adapting to a new country, a different climate, and a distinct culture involves personal, social, and emotional challenges. That is why, in addition to providing clear and reliable information about available resources, we foster spaces that support their well-being and integration into the community.
Last Saturday, February 7, in collaboration with Destination Entreprise-Victoriaville, a winter activity was organized in which we participated specifically for TFWs in the Victoriaville region.
Approximately 60 Temporary Foreign Workers from Latin American and African countries took part in the event. For many of them, it was their very first experience with recreational snow activities. Experiencing for the first time the sensation of sliding across a completely white landscape, in the heart of the Quebec winter, represented not only a moment of enjoyment, but also a personal achievement and a lasting memory.
Despite the low temperatures, the activity took place in a warm atmosphere filled with laughter, camaraderie, and mutual support. This type of experience allows workers to feel supported, reduce isolation, and strengthen their social networks.
Community activities play an essential role in the lives of TFWs. Many arrive in Quebec without family or a support network, primarily focused on their professional responsibilities. Participating in initiatives like this allows them to:
- Build connections with other workers who share similar experiences;
- Learn more about the region where they live and work;
- Discover accessible activities during the winter season;
- Reduce stress and improve their emotional well-being;
- Strengthen their sense of belonging within the local community.
In addition, these initiatives promote inclusion and recognize the significant contribution of Temporary Foreign Workers to the region’s economy and social fabric.
At InfoTET, we believe that providing information is fundamental, but it is equally important to create safe spaces where workers can connect, learn, and enjoy enriching experiences. Successful social integration contributes to a more positive migration experience and allows TFWs to integrate with greater confidence and security.
We will continue collaborating with regional organizations to promote activities that encourage inclusion, cultural exchange, and the well-being of Temporary Foreign Workers in Quebec.
We invite TFWs to stay tuned for our upcoming activities and meeting spaces, which they can find in our activity calendar, regularly updated on our website.
