Welcome, information, and community day for Temporary Foreign Workers in Saint-Paul-d’Abbotsford

On July 13, an information day dedicated to Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) was held in Saint-Paul-d’Abbotsford, organized in collaboration with Intégration Compétences and Desjardins. This event was a valuable opportunity to share essential information, strengthen community ties, and recognize the important contribution of TFWs in the region.

The day began under warm summer sunshine, with a personalized welcome offered by the Intégration Compétences team. Upon their arrival, each worker received a summary of the day’s program, along with a clear and accessible presentation of their rights, responsibilities, and the services available to them. The Desjardins team was also present to provide practical advice on banking services, financial management, and resources available to foreign workers.

During the event, participants were able to enjoy empanadas and tacos in a friendly atmosphere. They also received a warm visit from representatives of the Consulate General of Guatemala and the Consulate General of Mexico, who delivered welcome messages. The Mexican consulate was accompanied by its health brigade, which offered an on-site blood pressure check service.

The day concluded with a friendly soccer match, a moment of relaxation, sharing, and bonding between TFWs and members of the local community.

The event was supported by the presence and participation of several organizations committed to foreign workers:

  • Intégration Compétences

  • InfoTET from Immigrant Québec

  • MRC Rouville

  • Consulate General of Mexico

  • Consulate General of Guatemala

  • Desjardins

InfoTET from Immigrant Québec actively participated in the event, represented by its Coordinator Jonathan Buitrago, who took advantage of this opportunity to engage in dialogue with the workers, distribute informational material, and reaffirm the organization’s commitment to human and accessible support.

Copies of the Temporary Foreign Worker Guide in Quebec were distributed. This essential document provides TFWs with clear information about their rights, the services available, and the support resources.

The collaboration of these organizations was essential to the success of this initiative. A big thank you to all participants, organizers, and partners for this wonderful day of exchanges, information, and solidarity.
