The Government of Canada recognizes these challenges and wants to help employers hire the workers they need, while also reducing the administrative burden of such a task and ensuring temporary foreign workers are protected from abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_104016034022302985paragraph\">On August 8, 2023, the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Official Languages,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/news\/2023\/08\/cutting-red-tape-for-employers-who-protect-temporary-foreign-workers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/news\/2023\/08\/cutting-red-tape-for-employers-who-protect-temporary-foreign-workers.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1692112943142000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3jm8z0kbPH548be3B-kuFS\">announced REP, a three-year pilot initiative<\/a> to address labour shortages and how it will cut red tape for repeat employers who meet the highest standards of worker protections, while not undermining efforts to improve worker protections.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_104016034022302985paragraph\"><u><\/u> Under REP, eligible employers will gain access to Labour Market Impact Assessments\u00a0(LMIAs) that are valid for up to 36\u00a0months, while also benefitting from a simplified LMIA application, should they need to hire additional workers from the same occupation during the Pilot.<\/p>\n<p>This will help employers better plan for their staffing needs and reduce the number of different LMIAs they need to submit over three years. Recognized employers will also benefit from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jobbank.gc.ca\/temporary-foreign-workers\">Job Bank<\/a> designation that shows their recognized status to prospective workers.<\/p>\n<p>To participate in REP, employers must have a minimum of three\u00a0positive LMIAs for the same occupation over the past five\u00a0years from a list of occupations that have been designated as in-shortage based on <a href=\"https:\/\/occupations.esdc.gc.ca\/sppc-cops\/w.2lc.4m.2@-eng.jsp;jsessionid=HlmJQw5kJJ6k_FHEBYQ0PmP3V8xxSQdv59UaJz12tU3yoC8NGXHR!703355158\">Canadian Occupational Projection System<\/a> data. These employers will be subject to a more rigorous upfront assessment process based on their history and track record with the program, ensuring that REP targets employers with the best recruitment practices.<\/p>\n<p>REP will be rolled out in two\u00a0phases: first, primary agriculture employers will be able to apply starting in September\u00a02023, while all other employers will be eligible to apply in January 2024.
