The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, announced on June 27 that TFW with a valid work permit can now take study programs lasting more than six months without having to apply for a study permit.<\/p>\n

This temporary measure, put in place for a period of three years, allows holders of a valid temporary work permit (or who have applied to renew their work permit on or before June 7, 2023) to take additional training and courses to further their careers, improve their employment prospects and their chances of obtaining permanent residency, reads the press release<\/a>. “By removing barriers to skills upgrading, we are opening the door to more foreign-trained doctors and nurses to care for our loved ones and support the health care system,” says Minister Sean Fraser. We’re also paving the way for construction labourers to become tradespeople, strengthen our communities and build new homes.”<\/p>\n

This means that TFW can study in a program lasting 6 months or more while holding down a full-time or part-time job, without having to apply for a study permit at the same time.
