Cases continue to be reported in Canada. With measles on the rise in many countries around the world, there is also an increased risk of travelers bringing the virus to Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">Employers and workers can learn about measles and how to prevent measles with vaccinations by consulting the factsheet\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><a id=\"OWA30cd4edf-550c-8299-b251-32ebe33c01d9\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/measles-what-should-know.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/measles-what-should-know.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"21\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><u data-ogsc=\"\">Measles: What should you know<\/u><\/a><\/span><span data-ogsc=\"black\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">To\u00a0maintain\u00a0a safe working environment, it is essential for employers and workers to be aware of available\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><a id=\"OWAbb6d9500-aa54-24a2-9e0f-bddc9cc06b05\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/measles\/prevention-risks.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/measles\/prevention-risks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"22\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><u data-ogsc=\"\">preventive<\/u><b data-ogsc=\"\"><u data-ogsc=\"\">\u00a0<\/u><\/b><u data-ogsc=\"\">measures<\/u><\/a><\/span><span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u00a0to reduce the transmission of vaccine preventable diseases, including measles, particularly in shared living or working environments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">As the most effective way to protect against measles is through vaccination, workers are encouraged to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul data-editing-info=\"{&quot;applyListStyleFromLevel&quot;:true}\">\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\">\n<div role=\"presentation\" data-ogsc=\"\">Review their immunization history (including for\u00a0<span data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><a id=\"OWA22dbe673-43b2-afc8-2f45-f144f8aca986\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/measles\/prevention-risks.html#a6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/measles\/prevention-risks.html#a6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"23\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><u data-ogsc=\"\">measles<\/u><\/a><\/span>),<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\">\n<div role=\"presentation\" data-ogsc=\"\">Carry their immunization record with them, and<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\">\n<div role=\"presentation\" data-ogsc=\"\">Get vaccinated if they are not up to date before coming to work in Canada.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">Employers should also make reasonable efforts to support workers who wish to voluntarily\u00a0get vaccinated in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">The Public Health Agency of Canada is working closely with provincial, territorial\u00a0and international partners to share information and\u00a0monitor\u00a0the situation in Canada and globally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">As the situation evolves, public health recommendations may change. Employers and workers should regularly check the\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><a id=\"OWA1d3c77f3-aba4-de4b-d081-6d4394b8095b\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ccohs.ca\/oshanswers\/information\/public-health-units-across-canada.html#section-2-hdr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ccohs.ca\/oshanswers\/information\/public-health-units-across-canada.html#section-2-hdr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"24\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><u data-ogsc=\"\">website of the public health authority in their province or territory<\/u><\/a><\/span><span data-ogsc=\"black\"> to obtain updates and information on the preventive measures in place, particularly the availability of measles vaccination in their region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">Employers and workers can refer to\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><a id=\"OWA6c41752d-10b5-8785-4ab7-6988da4dbd21\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/health-infobase.canada.ca\/measles-rubella\/\" href=\"https:\/\/health-infobase.canada.ca\/measles-rubella\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"25\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><u data-ogsc=\"\">weekly surveillance reports<\/u><\/a><\/span><span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u00a0to\u00a0keep track of current measles activity in Canada, at a national level, and in their region(s) of work.<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\"><b data-ogsc=\"\">In the event of\u00a0symptoms or exposure<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">In the event of an outbreak of communicable diseases, such as measles, the employer must work with the appropriate provincial or territorial public health authority to establish clear protocols to mitigate disease spread and maintain transparent communication with workers and the public health authority. Both the employer and workers must follow the guidelines issued by public health. This includes <\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><a id=\"OWA45553df5-783b-4e12-8cf2-199d7e7358ec\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/measles-what-should-know.html#:~:text=If%20you%20think%20you%20have%20been%20exposed%20or%20have%20measles\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/measles-what-should-know.html#:~:text=If%20you%20think%20you%20have%20been%20exposed%20or%20have%20measles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"26\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><u data-ogsc=\"\">recommendations<\/u><\/a><\/span><span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u00a0regarding\u00a0isolation for a specified period, including when housing is provided by the employer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">If a worker is sick or shows\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><a id=\"OWA9a5f12f1-df4d-4cdc-879c-da6da4884088\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/measles-what-should-know.html#:~:text=a%20previous%20infection.-,Symptoms,-Initial%20symptoms%20include\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/measles-what-should-know.html#:~:text=a%20previous%20infection.-,Symptoms,-Initial%20symptoms%20include\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"27\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><u data-ogsc=\"\">symptoms of measles<\/u><\/a><\/span><span data-ogsc=\"black\">, the worker must inform their employer as soon as possible, isolate\u00a0in accordance with\u00a0public health guidance,\u00a0and contact a health care provider\u00a0immediately\u00a0for advice.\u00a0If the worker needs to leave isolation to seek medical care, it is essential to inform the healthcare facility before arriving that the worker may have measles to allow for\u00a0appropriate precautions\u00a0to prevent the spread of virus to others. The employer must make reasonable efforts to ensure that the worker has access to healthcare services and professionals, such as a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">If a worker thinks they may have been exposed to someone with measles and they have not been vaccinated or have not been sick with measles in the past, they should stay away from others and\u00a0immediately\u00a0call a health care provider for advice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">The employer or worker should also inform their respective consulate in the case of measles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">We invite you to stay informed and would territory in which they are working. If there is a period where temporary foreign workers are not covered by the provincial or territorial health insurance (waiting period), the employer must obtain and pay for private health insurance that covers emergency medical care, without deductions from worker\u2019s wages.
