From May 30 to June 2, a joint initiative made it possible to meet with temporary foreign workers employed in the agri-food processing sector of the fishing industry in Gasp\u00e9sie.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis project, coordinated by InfoTET from Immigrant Qu\u00e9bec as part of the Migrant Worker Support Program (MWSP), was made possible thanks to the collaboration of several key players, including Genevi\u00e8ve G\u00e9linas from \u00c9voluP\u00eaches, Eddy Pieggay from the Gasp\u00e9sie Public Health Directorate, as well as partner organizations: the Centre d\u2019aide aux familles latino-am\u00e9ricaines (CAFLA), Justice Pro Bono, the Council for Anglophone Magdalen Islanders (CAMI), and the consulates of Mexico, Guatemala, and the CNESST.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Over the course of four days, the organizations and the Mexican and Guatemalan consulates traveled more than 700 kilometers across the region to meet with over 200 temporary foreign workers directly in their workplaces and living areas.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A Day of Information and Celebration<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The highlight of the tour was the information and celebration day, held on Sunday, June 1 at the Cap-d\u2019Espoir community center. During the afternoon, participating organizations, along with the Mexican and Guatemalan consulates, were able to share key information with around a hundred workers from these countries and answer their questions in a welcoming atmosphere.
It was also an opportunity for the InfoTET team to distribute the latest 2025\u20132026 edition of the Spanish-language information guide to each worker.
The day continued with a meal generously prepared by volunteers from the local Lions Club, who treated everyone to hot dogs, salads, chips, and refreshing drinks. All of this unfolded to the rhythm of Latin music, creating a festive and warm atmosphere. Some workers even enjoyed a break in the weather to play soccer nearby.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In addition to the group activities, one-on-one meetings were offered to those wishing to speak confidentially about their situation or ask specific questions.
This personalized approach ensured more focused and reassuring support, particularly from CAFLA, which had four psychologists on-site, Justice Pro Bono, which sent two specialized lawyers, and CAMI, which will now serve as the main point of contact for TFWs in Gasp\u00e9sie and the Magdalen Islands.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

This event was a great example of successful collaboration, bringing together community, government, and consular stakeholders around a shared goal: improving access to information on the rights and responsibilities of migrant workers in Gasp\u00e9sie.<\/p>\n

Funded by the Government of Canada and administered in the province by Immigrant Qu\u00e9bec, this project shows that with coordination and commitment, it is possible to offer these workers a respectful and enriching experience in Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n
