If you\u2019re in an abusive job situation, you can apply for an open work permit for vulnerable workers.<br>An open work permit lets you work for almost any employer in Canada. It will help you leave an abusive situation to find a new job. There is no fee to apply. This work permit is <strong>temporary <\/strong>but should give you enough time to find a new employer and apply for a new work permit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\">Who is eligible?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Workers in Canada who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\"><li>hold a <strong>valid employer-specific work permit <\/strong>(or have&nbsp; applied to renew one) and<\/li><li>are being abused or at risk of being abused in relation to&nbsp; their job in Canada.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Family members in Canada can also apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is abuse?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Any behaviour that scares, controls or isolates you could be abuse.&nbsp; Abuse can be physical, sexual, financial or mental and can include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\"><li>physical harm, threats or insults;<\/li><li>unwanted sexual comments or touching;<\/li><li>controlling where you go or which people you see;<\/li><li>stealing from you or taking money you have earned.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><strong>How can I apply?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">You need to apply online for this work permit. You need a scanner&nbsp; or camera to create electronic copies of your documents. Read the&nbsp; instructions at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/Canada.ca\/vulnerable-foreign-workers\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"Canada.ca\/vulnerable-foreign-workers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canada.ca\/vulnerable-foreign-workers<\/a><\/strong>.&nbsp;<br>If you can\u2019t apply online because of a disability, or if there\u2019s a&nbsp; problem with our online application system, go to the IRCC office&nbsp; closest to you or contact the Client Support Centre at&nbsp; 1-888-242-2100 for more information..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><strong>What documents do I need to provide?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>Mandatory <\/strong>letter describing the abuse&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Other evidence <strong>may <\/strong>include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\"><li>letter, statement or report from an abuse support&nbsp; organization or medical professional;<\/li><li>sworn statement by the applicant;<\/li><li>copy of a complaint filed with an enforcement agency;<\/li><li>other supporting material (for example, copies of&nbsp; emails, photos, witness testimonies);<\/li><li>Digital photo;<\/li><li>Marriage and birth certificates if you\u2019re applying with&nbsp; family members.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><strong>What happens after I apply?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">We aim to contact you within 5 business days after you apply.&nbsp; We may ask you to do an interview. <strong>If you\u2019re approved, <\/strong>we will likely inspect your employer. We won\u2019t&nbsp; contact them for any other reason.
