It is important that you understand your rights while you are in Canada as a temporary foreign worker.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Here are a few things you need to know:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Your employer must: <\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\u00a0pay you for your work;<\/li>\r\n<li>ensure that your workplace is safe;<\/li>\r\n<li>give you break time and days off;<\/li>\r\n<li>respect the terms of your written contract.<\/li>\r\n<li>Inform the CNESST* of the date of your arrival, the duration of your contract<br \/>and, if your departure date does not coincide with the end date of your contract<br \/>of the date and reasons for your departure. He\/she must record this information in the registration system or register that it maintains in accordance with\u00a0the regulation made under section 29 of\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/document\/cs\/N-1.1\/20180612\">Act respecting labour standards<\/a>.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Your employer cannot:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>force you to perform duties that you were not hired or trained to do;<\/li>\r\n<li>\u00a0force you to work if you are sick or injured;<\/li>\r\n<li>\u00a0take your passport or work permit away from you;<\/li>\r\n<li>\u00a0have you deported from Canada or change your immigration status;<\/li>\r\n<li>make you pay them back for fees they paid to hire you.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>* The CNESST is the organization to which the Quebec government has entrusted the promotion of\u00a0rights and obligations in the workplace. It ensures that these rights and obligations are respected by\u00a0workers and employers in Quebec.
